  We were informed that this was THE place to enjoy some good jazz music so we decided to make dinner reservations for 6:30 as we were informed that there would be entertainment at 7pm followed by another at 9pm. The food menu looked appealing however most of the dishes were not quite up to par. We chalked it up initially to the kitchen having an off night until my friend ordered an Americano & it literally tasted instant. Follow all of this up with the fact that the first group never played & the second group didn't go on until 9:30pm. To make matters worse our group of 3 were charged a cover fee which was added automatically to our bill, without being informed when making our initial reservations. We were ALL unimpressed and certainly will not be returning.

  We went there for dinner on Friday night. We ordered Fish/Chips and Crispy Ginger Beef. The fish was passable, but the beef was something that you would buy from a grocery store and heat up. Soggy, bland with sauce dribble over it after cooking.
  The waitress never showed up until our meal was "done". She noticed that my wife barely touched the ginger beef. We explained the issue at which point she cleared it from the table.
  Within minutes, the waitress shows up with the bill and no mention of the beef which was still on the bill. I asked for her to remove the beef from the bill.
  The next thing I know the manager (owner?) shows up at the table. Again, we explain what happened and asked him to remove the beef from the bill. He asked if it was so bad, why did you finish it? I told him that we did not finish the beef and in fact we had returned it to the kitchen. His next comment was "Perhaps you should come and teach me how to cook then".
  At that point, I asked for his name and he refused to give it to me. I asked for the owner's name and he also refused to give that to me.
  Needless to say, I paid the bill and we left. We will NEVER return there again.

  Every time I come to Cottage Bistro I have an amazing time. The service is great, and they have live performance every night (often amazing jazz or blues). The owner Eugene is so kind and attentive, and started recognizing us after just a couple visits. The food is also delicious and they have great specials too. Live music in an intimate setting is a rarity in Vancouver, don't take it for granted. Come visit Eugene, he won't disappoint.

  When the music was playing it was good but ended by 10pm. We had to pay $5 to cover the cost of the band...that was new there. We ordered a 1/2 ltr of wine and it tasted horrible...turned...when we sent it back we got nothing but attitude. This place has gone downhill!
