  5 stars for their cheese and sandwiches. Usually I'd take away a star for the wild west customer service but the cheese and sandwiches are so good it still keeps them at a 5. This is a commercial drive institution that people will drive across the city for.

  Great selection of Italian grocery goods. Need an obscure pasta or oil? They have it. Huge cheese selection as well. The best part though is the deli, especially their sandwiches. Great value for your money. They use good bread, good meat, and fresh veg - my usual favorite is capicollo on focaccia. Weekends they do a meatball sub that's hard to beat, filled with mozzarella and Parmesan.

  Having La Grotta in my neighbourhood is a blessing. It's an authentic Italian deli where their amazing sandwiches are made to order. On the weekends be prepared to wait in a long line whether you're there for a sandwich or 200 grams of mortadella. Totally worth the wait...and you can gaze longingly at the myriad of coffee paraphernalia lining the shelves. My favourite thing is to order a small sandwich and a cold bottle of Brio Chinotto (Italian cola), sit outside and people-watch. Good times.

  The service is bismal. We ordered a sandwich and asked for light hot Dijon mustard and all we could taste was the mustard, it was oozing out of the sandwich. We also asked for artichokes and they served one on the sandwich that was so woody. Just a little bit of care would've gone a long way. The worst part of my experience there was a lady at the till with half her head shaved. There was another gentleman ahead of me and we were standing there waiting to pay and now word of a lie she stood at the till, did not acknowledge us or look up for a second...stood there and text on her phone for at least 5 minutes...literally!! I was blown away, I actually put the product in my hand back in the cooler and had to leave, I couldn't wait anymore. Quite a disappointment in an establishment I'm told used to be quite amazing...
